Proactive Prospecting to Increase Your Sales Potential

November 29th, 2009 Patwin Jones No comments

Ever notice how difficult it is to start a project? Then once you start it, it easily becomes a creature of habit. Take for example an exercise program. We keep putting it off but once we start, we ask ourselves, “why didn’t do this earlier?” We seem to have the same mindset with proactive prospecting. We continue to find excuses not to prospect even though we know how productive and the positive results that will come from it. So why is it that we will make every excuse in the world not to do it?

Make an appointment with yourself for one hour each day to prospect using your sphere of influence. Prospecting, like anything else, requires discipline. (Seems like prospecting can always be put off until a later day when the circumstances will be better.) Make an appointment with yourself each day to prospect.

Have a specific message. Everyone needs to hear the latest news of markets conditions in your area. It’s likely that they have some misinformation and you can become the expert to help them get a more accurate picture.

Accurately define your target market before you begin. Determine how many calls you will make in that hour or two. Some sale people will call until they get an appointment or make the sale. Or you could decide to make 20 calls in that allotted time. Whatever you feel comfortable with and reasonable within the time allocated.

I would highly suggest having a database of at least one month’s supply of names. The time allocated for prospecting should not be wasted looking up names or deciding at that moment who you are going to talk to next. Be prepared and watch how much more productive you will become.

Remember you have set aside some time for prospecting. Work in an area without interruption. Don’t answer calls or schedule meetings during this time. As you start going through your calls, you will find each call will become easier and easier. Before you know it, you will feel like a pro. You will learn as you go and practice makes perfection.

Experience and surveys have shown that the best times to contact customers is 8 AM to 9 AM, between Noon and 1 PM and 5 PM to 6:30 PM. If you are missing a customer between certain hours, then it’s best to make note of that and call them at a different time. Chances are if you continue to call at the same time and the customer is not available, they will continue to be unavailable during that time block.

Don’t stop. Persistence is one of the key virtues in selling success. Most sales/valuable contacts are made after the fifth call, and most sales people quit after the first.

Go With These Blogging Platforms

November 14th, 2009 Melissa Donnelly No comments

I’ve been a blogger for several years now, and I’m always open to the idea of trying out new blogging platforms. I’ve blogged about a wide range of topics, and my friends often laugh at me about this. From the tongue scraper to wine goblets, I’ve blogged about just about everything.

I try to get the best variety of options available, as I know that whatever I choose to blog with is something that I want to be convenient, rich with features, enjoyable, and attractive looking to my viewers.

While many were great, there are some that I’ve liked more than others. Generally, I stick to three now and what I go with really depends on the needs of the blog. Here are my top three, as I’m sure that one of these will be a great fit for you.

First of all, I’d definitely recommend taking a look at Blogger, which is offered free of charge by Google. It’s very easy to set up a blog this way, and you get the benefits of having your content indexed shortly after it’s published.

2. Wordpress. I absolutely love Wordpress as a platform because of all of the plugins available. There are really so many of them to choose from.

One of the best things about Wordpress is just how detailed these plugins are in terms of what they do. With very little Internet knowledge, you can easily have a robust website thanks to Wordpress.

The last one I’ll mention is a more recent addition to the blogosphere, and it’s called Posterous. This is a great service that allows you to post to your own blog without ever having to set it up. As long as you email them your post, they’ll have it up automatically for you in less than a minute.

The best part is the fact that you can upload videos and pictures directly to the blog via email, and they’ll post those too.

The Business Potential Rewards from Forming or Joining Networking Groups

November 14th, 2009 Leon Harvey No comments

Ever hear the phrase “go back to the basics” when all else fails? One marketing concept that has been around for years is “networking”. With the Internet it is becoming more popular all the time. Some of the latest networking we have seen has been via the Internet. ActiveRain, LinkedIn, MySpace, Facebook are just some of the more popular networking sites. With technology however, the face to face networking has been less convenient but it is still very important in today’s society. It is a grand opportunity to obtain customers, business opportunities and share ideas and the like.

There are a vast number of social networking groups active today. The Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters, the American Legion and Business and Networking International are just a few. They are in almost every market in the US and the world. The potential for untapped prospects in these networking groups are endless. Several of these groups require no fees or are minimal in annual dues.

Keep in mind, you can always form your own networking group. You can organize specific dates, times and locations convenient for everyone. Be sure to invite a variety of knowledge and experience that are all related in some way shape or form. You have total control of the size of attendees and the likeminded professionals that will be meeting.

Whether you join a group or create your own, you will be meeting and sharing ideas with individuals. Many of us have similar goals and interests. Overall we are always looking for more prospects, customers, clients, buyers and sellers. The population is gigantic and no matter what we have to offer in our product or services, there is somebody out there that needs what we have to offer. The accomplishment or success of any business always start by social networking and getting out in front of people.

Be sure you bring several business cards. Give at least two business cards to everyone you meet. You will want to envision this person giving your card to one of their friends or colleagues as well.

At each meeting, you will be given the opportunity to give a one to two minute commercial about yourself and your products or services. Rehearse what you are going to say. Then rehearse it again. The spotlight will be on you and you want to make your first impression your best impression.

When joining or starting a networking group, evaluate the variety of professions attending. If there are only 10 people in the group, are they all real estate professionals? If there are a mixture of real estate professionals, Insurance Broker, Doctors and Contractors, which one would be a bigger plus to enhancing your business objectives? These questions are important so consider them carefully.

Social or group networking, a fantastic and inexpensive way to meet new people. If organized correctly, it will take a minimal amount of your time and increase your productivity in business. And think of it this way, the worst case scenario is you make a few friends.

Recruiting Preparation Should Be a Part of Your Daily Management Routine

November 12th, 2009 Summers Rogers No comments

Always expect the unexpected. For whatever reasons, sometime we have employees resign with little or no notice. If we are not prepared, replacing this individual could be challenging. How do we prepare, you ask? Keep recruiting practices as your daily routine. If we don’t, the fear of filling this crucial position could cloud our judgment when we hire a replacement. This new hire might not have the important expertise or might lack the knowledge to satisfy the position.

The best recruiting programs are those in which recruiting is an ongoing activity, instead of a knee-jerk response to an immediate need. Even if you’re not currently expanding your sales team, normal turnover or performance issues almost certainly means that you’ll need to hire every month.

Don’t rely on a single approach when recruiting. For years; employers thought that an effective recruiting campaign consisted of a few advertisements in the Help Wanted section of the Sunday newspaper, with a formal recruiter or two thrown in for good measure. But those tools are simply no longer effective enough in today’s market, especially when everyone else is using them too. Just as you wouldn’t rely on a single technique to identify prospective customers for your business, your recruiting program should include the regular use of a variety of prospecting tools available at your disposal that can identify qualified candidates.

Today, there are unlimited ways to identify good candidates, including advertising on free internet sites, job fairs or even open houses, if you are in the real estate industry. Make sure your recruiting program takes advantage of all of the tools at your disposal.

If you think that the burden of creating a favorable impression rests completely with the candidate, think again. With lots of companies competing for the best people, your interview process must be efficient, responsive and, most important, respectful of each candidate’s time and interest. That means being organized, keeping to your interview schedule, and getting back to prospective agents when you say you will. After all, if you can’t make an effort to make a favorable impression during the interview process, what kind of an effort will you make when the person is on board?

Don’t despair if a top candidate declines your offer in favor of another company. All opportunities are not created equal, and even that “can’t refuse” offer may not look so great after a few months with another company. Stay in touch and you may just get a chance to win your top candidate back. And, even if it does work out, good candidates will be flattered by the attention and will remember you when they make their next move.

In certain sales industries such as real estate, it might behoove you to consider overstaffing when appropriate. Good people are always an asset. Having trained real estate agents or sales professionals in reserve who understand the company and its philosophy, will give you greater flexibility in expanding your team or in replacing a marginal performer.

Always be attentive and alert if you consider delegating your recruiting responsibilities. You can’t effectively delegate essential recruiting activities to a secretary or an administrative assistant. The expense and consequences of poor recruiting are too great to place the task in inexperienced hands. Your effort to keep the best candidate starts with the initial contact. You must play an active role in recruiting from start to finish.

Your Blog’s Traffic

November 7th, 2009 Franc Serpes No comments

Of course, you know that blogging is a great way to make money these days. And every article on how to make a blog make money says traffic is what does it all. So what is traffic? Before you sign up for any blog service, know what you’re targeting.

When people talk about traffic, they often don’t know the line between mere hits and visits that actually do the blog good. Hits will only mean the number of times that a user seeks information on a site. It could be a request for an image, a video or text and the person can actually keep making that request and each time, it will be counted as a hit. Now you know why hits just aren’t reliable indicators of blog performance.

In other words, when you consider traffic, you have to take into account what your readers actually do while visiting your blog. Then you can work from there. For example, what is the average amount of time they spend on your blog? That is a much better sign of how things are actually going. When your reader clicks away in a matter of seconds, there is definitely a problem in there. Look into the actual page they usually exit from and examine what could need a fixing.

Maybe your design is too loud or maybe your page or pages appear unorganized. Maybe you’ve been using inappropriate keywords and driving the wrong people to your page. Remember that keywords are always crucial when you want traffic. In fact, looking closely into them allows you to look into what your readers actually want from you and what drives them. If you suspect that you might be having problems around this part, you certainly have to look closer and pinpoint what’s wrong. Otherwise, you could be pouring your efforts down the drain.

You can also look into which of your posts have gotten the most visits and comments. From there, you would know what approaches to your topics work best and you can try to use them more often for your future posts. For example, if you noticed that you did very well on posts where you added a lot of pictures, take that cue. Make it a point to have pictures on each of your posts. Just make sure these images are appropriate for the topic or they could easily backfire on you.

There are other behavior patterns you can observe while studying your traffic. However, they will all work to highlight the good things you’ve been doing so you can reinforce them and the bad so you could change or improve them. When you blog to express yourself, you?re obviously not obligated to anyone but you. But when you’re blogging to make money, you actually owe your readers your full commitment. After all, how can you expect to make money with blog posts that are inconsistent? Your readers need to know that you’ll always be there or they just won’t find the point in following you.

Home Advice Every Health Freak Needs To Hear

November 6th, 2009 Cristian Truers No comments

Every once in a while you just have to vent. I had to get the following off my chest;

You can’t spot reduce. If you could, people who chewed gum would have skinny faces and Jillian Michaels wouldn’t have “kankles”.

Stop telling us that all fat isn’t bad like you just discovered penicillin. Calories matter: They always have, they still do and they always will. Creatine is still the best performance supplement on the market. The “next creatine” is still creatine.

Dear gym guy: Please stop doing the following; Bicep curls in the squat rack Any exercise other than the bench press on the bench press Resting for 8 minutes between sets and not letting others “work in” Leaving your weights all over the floor The “secret” to fat loss is good nutrition and hard work. That’s it.

Don’t ask me about intermittent fasting, macro-patterning, cyclical ketogenic diets or meal replacements if you aren’t eating enough vegetables. Learn to prioritize if you can do 45 hard minutes on the elliptical while still easily belting out every song on your iPod but crumple under the weight of mauve-colored dumbbells – focus more on weight.

If you can bench press 350lbs (or could in high school) but can’t walk up a flight of stairs without coughing up radial snow tires – mix in a bike ride or a hike in place of your 4th “chest day” of the week.

If you can put your knees in your ears – quit stretching and build some strength and stability. If you are “bench press guy” from above and have posture that would make Quasimodo cringe, add some mobility and postural work. (Sorry to pick on bench press guy again but) if you can bench press small buildings but can’t deadlift your birth weight – try deadlifting. You won’t likely be able to out-exercise a poor diet.

If you are losing weight by diet alone – you will look like a different kind of crap. Your way isn’t the “best way” it just may be the best way for you. You can live a very healthy life eating both vegetarian and Atkins and most things in between provided you are eating healthy, mostly un/minimally processed foods that provide adequate nutrients.

The most likely reason you aren’t getting results: Trying to “fix” something that requires a lifestyle makeover that starts with changing habits. Have a beef about health trends? Rant away!

The Philosophies and Ideologies of Success

November 6th, 2009 Lara Kim No comments

The philosophy of triumph in business are not any different than winning on the football field. Vince Lombardi of the Green Bay Packers, a Hall of Fame coach, had such a strong belief about winning, that many of his principles are practiced and taught in the business industry throughout the world.

Vince’s absent has been forty years but his attitude and viewpoints are relevant in today’s society and business practices. He was also famous for many coined quotes of his era, and these phrases are pertinent in business, politics and sports today.

“10-15 minutes early or you are late” as Vince would say. This is so true. Being on time shows respect to your peers. Never being late for a meeting or appointment signifies respect for who you are working for or with. You will always turn out a winner if punctuality is a common practice.

If you are a business manager or team leader and demonstrate confidence, it will always shine through. Lombardi once said “Confidence is Contagious – So is lack of Confidence”. By exhibiting confidence and an up spirit will flow out to others around you. The same results will also occur if you lack confidence. Others will truly follow a manager or leader.

PERFECTION IS NOT ATTAINABLE, BUT IF WE CHASE PERFECTION WE CAN CATCH EXCELLENCE – Setting goals that are easily reached only guarantees mediocrity, whether in business or sports. Setting lofty goals and aspirations, and honestly striving towards them, may not make you the best, but you will become one of the best.

THE ONLY PLACE SUCCESS COMES BEFORE WORK IS IN THE DICTIONARY – Practice and hard work will reap success. Think of the Lombardi Sweep. The defense knew it was coming, but they still couldn’t stop it. Hard work and “perfect practice” will always win out.

IF WINNING ISN’T EVERYTHING, WHY DO WE KEEP SCORE? – Whether you are in a foot race, football game, or climbing the business ladder, if you don’t want to be the best, you will be satisfied with second place. It will become a habit.

Believe in yourself and believe in your peers or authorities. Be positive in life and live these ideologies and you will be part of the winning team.

During Pregnancy A High Fat Diet Can Lead To Severe Liver Disease In Offspring

November 6th, 2009 Aleksandro Imles No comments

Scientists have discovered a previously unknown link between a mother’s diet in pregnancy and a severe form of liver disease in her child.

In a study, published in the journal Hepatology, researchers at the University of Southampton found that a high fat diet during a woman’s pregnancy makes her offspring more likely to develop a severe form of fatty liver disease when they reach adulthood. The findings are another piece in the jigsaw for scientists who believe diets containing too high levels of saturated fat may have an adverse effect on our health.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition associated with obesity and caused by the build up of fat in the liver. The condition advances in some people and it is important to understand the factors that contribute to disease progression. Until recently, NAFLD was considered rare and relatively harmless but now it is one of the most common forms of liver disease that may progress to cirrhosis a serious life threatening chronic liver disease.

Professor Christopher Byrne, with colleagues Dr Felino Cagampang and Dr Kim Bruce, of the University’s School of Medicine and researchers at King’s College London, conducted the study, funded by the BBSRC. Prof Byrne explained: “This research shows that too much saturated fat in a mother’s diet can affect the developing liver of a fetus, making it more susceptible to developing fatty liver disease later in life. An unhealthy saturated fat-enriched diet in the child and young adult compounds the problem further causing a severe form of the fatty liver disease later in adult life.”

The next stage of this research, also funded by the BBSRC, will be to understand, more precisely, the reason why fatty liver disease develops and to intervene to prevent the fatty liver disease occurring.

The University’s School of Medicine has a worldwide reputation for its pioneering research into the relationship between mothers’ diets in pregnancy and future health problems in their offspring.
